Aspects in Astrology: The Five Major Configurations

Aspects in Astrology: The Five Major Configurations

In episode 323 astrologers Chris Brennan and Claire Moon discuss the five major aspects in astrology, and explain what they mean in a birth chart.

Aspects are geometrical configurations which denote different types of relationships between planets, and they are the primary means through which planets interact with each other in a chart.

The five major aspects, also sometimes known as the Ptolemaic aspects, are the conjunction, opposition, trine, square, and sextile.

During the course of the episode we give an introduction to the topic of aspects and then get into what each of the them mean symbolically.

This episode is available in both audio and video versions below.

  • Thank you for this wonderful well explained podcast on the aspects. I looked everywhere at the beginning of the year for information on aspects as I struggled to understand it as a 1st year traditional astrology student. This was a good revision before exams and I learnt 1 or 2 things we haven’t touched on yet. Thank you for the podcast that is a library of information!

  • Hi Chris! Just responding to the question of what to call it when two planets are involved in a mirror aspect with each other, i.e., transiting Mars conjunct Venus and transiting Venus conjunct Mars. I see that astrologer Judith Hill calls this a “doubling”. She discusses doublings briefly in her book “The Lunar Nodes: Your Key to Excellent Chart Interpretation” on pp. 38-39. I hope this makes your short list! I really enjoy your podcasts! Keep up the good work!
