Astrology Q&A: Sect During Twilight, and Reading Kids' Charts

In episode 273 astrologers Leisa Schaim and Chris Brennan answer some questions about astrology that were submitted by listeners of the podcast.

Some of the topics we covered in this episode include whether you should learn natal or horary astrology first, how to determine the sect of charts where the birth was close to sunrise or sunset, the ethics of reading the birth charts of children.

We also discussed placements in the difficult houses, such as the 6th, 8th, or 12th house, as well as other topics such as the importance of counseling skills for astrologers, how to not fear difficult transits in the future, and how astrology has changed or impacted our lives.

Later we also touched on why the wrong chart is said to still work sometimes, as well as the role of bias in astrology.

This episode is available in both audio and video versions below.

  • Hi, I love the podcast. Is there a special name or significance for a chart with all of the visible planets below the ascendant and all of the outer planets above the ascendant?

  • Sect in twilight was always tough for me. My sun is only 2.5 degrees below the ascendant, for example, but I’m an unquestionably “night chart” person. I’m not a professional but I read friends just to keep myself sharp, so this isn’t all that useful for a consultation but what seems to help in ambiguous situations is to pick a Malefic and see how it behaves. IMO they just present themselves more obviously than the other planets – and consider their behavior as it relates to that planet or ask questions to figure it out or something along those lines. Especially if one of them would be either in hayz or completely out of sect (my Mars, for example, is in hayz and I just don’t show any of the “diurnal Mars” tendencies at all). The moon is also my elevated planet (if you count the elevated planet as ‘highest point,’ but if you count closest to the MC then it’s Mars, which IMO would reinforce my idea because even some diurnal influence on an elevated Mars would magnify the Malefic tendencies, but I digress)

That’s just my two cents from some limited experience, anyways. What do you all think?
