Episode 294 features a discussion with astrologer Israel Ajose about the meaning of the Moon in astrology, and some different techniques that incorporate the Moon in the western astrological tradition.
This is the first in a series of new episodes on the significations of each of the planets, and I decided to start with the Moon because it is the closest celestial body to Earth.
In order to ground the episode in the astrological tradition we read through several different passages from ancient and modern astrologers to see how they described the meaning of the Moon in astrology.
We then used this as a jumping off point for further discussions, and in order to look at some of the different techniques that use the Moon as their focal point in western astrology.
The passages that we read from different astrologers include Vettius Valens, William Lilly, Reinhold Ebertin, Robert Hand, Richard Tarnas, and Demetra George.
Israel Ajose is a practicing astrologer from the UK, and is the President of the Astrological Lodge of London, which is the oldest astrological society in the English-speaking world, having been founded in 1915 by Alan and Bessie Leo.
Israel previously appeared on episode 213 of The Astrology Podcast where I interviewed him about the Astrological Lodge in person while on a trip to Europe.

Wonderful information, thanks. Was reflecting on moon=mind, mercury=transmitter, vedic astrology gives the word Buddha to occidental mercury, so Siddharta Gautama was “only” a transmitter, that makes a lot of sense to me studying Buddhism. Thank you! Greetings from Mexico.

Great podcast! What Lunar calendar do you recommend?
That’s a good question! I don’t have a particular one that I use, as I usually just know roughly what phase the Moon is in in my head. But now that you mention it, maybe it would be nice to get one.
get the Jewish calendar, it is totally lunar and always throws significant light on solar or other calendars.
You’ll love it. PS it probably will be the closest we get to the Babylonians, before the Greeks and Romans and Christian Popes thought they knew what to do about the Moon.

This was such an interesting topic about the moon! I didn’t realize how there would be so much to talk about. The first thing I look at is how long the podcast is, and when I saw 3 hours, I couldn’t imagine. In fact, I thought I would be bored, instead I was interested the entire time. I also have an 11th house moon and enjoy groups. I will certainly look forward to the part 2! This was very informative.

Question: Does the Moon collect & anchor energy just from the planets or from the nodes and angles too? And would the type of aspect make a difference?
For example: Moon separating from a conjunction with the Asc by 1° while also separating from a trine to Saturn by 20′ and applying to:
-the nodes (trine & sextile) within 45′
-to the MC within 50′ (square)
-Mercury with a 4° orb (trine)
1) Would the 1° separation from the Asc play a stronger role since it’s a conjunction or would the separation from Saturn play the stronger role since the trine is just minutes apart?
2) Would the trine & sextile to the nodes play a role and, if so, would they do so equally despite forming different aspects?
3) Would the almost 1° applying square to the MC play a role more significant than if it was a trine, opposition or sextile?
4) Or, would you just consider the next applying aspect only to a planet (Mercury in this case) even though it has the widest orb?
